Dennis, who is twenty-five, was referred to TEMAK last year by a doctor at the Provincial Hospital in Kisumu after he lost his wife and child to the AIDS virus. TEMAK’s outreach workers then supported Dennis through being tested for HIV himself and coming to terms with his positive status. TEMAK kept in contact with Dennis through the months that followed, when Dennis became sick himself and had to give up his trade as a tinsmith, at which he had been working for five years.

After being discharged from hospital Dennis was able to start working at TEMAK. He began using some of his metalwork skills again as well as receiving extra training in craftwork and painting.

Asked about the future, Dennis says he is happy with the work he is doing now at TEMAK and wants to continue to develop his skills as an artisan.
