Elizabeth Odongo is eighteen and originally came to TEMAK to take their course in dressmaking, fashion and design. She completed the course last year and has since stayed at TEMAK to work; she currently makes the TEMAK paper necklaces with the other young women, and has also been taught to make other items sold by TEMAK, including medicinal soap.

Naturally made soap, available on this website.

Like many of the women at TEMAK, lack of money in the family meant that Elizabeth could not complete school and at fifteen she was forced to drop out and work. Seeing that Elizabeth would have a better life if she was given the opportunity to develop skills, a Sister at Elizabeth’s church introduced Elizabeth to TEMAK.

Elizabeth says, “I am working hard at TEMAK to help my family and also to help my future. In the world now we need to work hard for our futures”. She is aiming to save for a sewing machine so that she can open a small business of her own in fashion and design – work she has learned to love at TEMAK. “TEMAK really helps us young girls”, Elizabeth says, “They give us counseling and help us to get knowledge and skills.”
