TEMAK's Strategic Plans for the Community

City of Hope
With programs in Kisumu city over the past 13 years, TEMAK has provided vocational skills, counseling, Christian teachings, medical treatment, food and clothing to hundreds of teenage mothers and young widows living with HIV. More needs to be done in order to give hope to the hundreds, if not thousands, of women who need it in this area alone.

TEMAK intends to design, construct and commission a complex to provide hope in the lives of the hurting young women and AIDS orphans in Kisumu. On completion the complex will house ten vocational training workshops, eight primary school classrooms with a kindergarten, half-way home and a dormitory for the girls.

Katolo Community Centre
Katolo village lies in Nyando district in Nyanza Province, adjacent to Lake Victoria. With unreliable rainfall patterns and occasional flooding from the raging Nyando River during rainy season, Katolo residents generally are disadvantaged hence the work of TEMAK.

HIV/AIDS has taken its toll on the village of Katolo and its environs. High death rate has almost wiped out the middle aged generation, leaving many orphans in the hands of very old caregivers.

In 2003, World Youth International, Australia, joined forces with TEMAK in putting up a structure that would form the foundation for the Katolo Community Centre. The community centre is training boys and girls in carpentry, masonry, dressmaking, hairdressing, craft, electronics, motor vehicle mechanics and entrepreneurship. The ultimate objective is to strengthen the centre so that it may contribute more effectively at village level at reducing the effects of the scourge of HIV/AIDS on orphans and caregivers.

Micro and small enterprises will be encouraged, and supported, as part of income generation strategy.

"TEMAK UPDATE" Newsletter
In spite of our efforts and the cooperation we get from individuals/organizations, there's still a dearth of information out there about who we are and what we do. We know this to be the case from the enquiries we receive from our partners on various issues. Our partners are interested in staying up-to-date on events and developments within TEMAK and about our programmes. They want to know more about the girls we are working with, their backgrounds, lives, experiences and ambitions. They want to comprehend the environment from which the girls are coming from.

A quarterly newsletter would become a channel of information about TEMAK.
