Katolo Community center >> Poultry farming

This unit is an improvement of local poultry using hybrid cocks (Kenbro and broiler cocks).

Objectives: 

  1. Establish a unit that gives tout to the community pure cocks

  2. Facing out all parent stock and replacing them with improved breed.

  3. First batch products separated and given pure breed cocks which improve their quality.

  4. Community farmers given eggs to take for brooding with the local chicks

  5. Increase community participation for the future comparison and appreciation.

  6. Serving the community chick s with pure cocks all the time for better offspring.

 Activities 

  • Housing for chicken

  • buying  local chicks and hybrid cocks

  • formulating  feeds using local materials

  • Initiating locally available foods

  • Treatment

  • de-worming

  • vaccination

  • Pest control

  • Cleanliness and hygiene

  • Disinfecting

  • Regular feeding

  • Curling and sorting

  • Community training

  • Marketing

  • Training of staff

  • Identification of contact farmers and establishing chicken farms.

  • Training of farmers.

  • Supporting community women to start their own Apiaries through small loans programme.

  • Processing and marketing of honey.
