Once in a while TEMAK holds conferences to fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)) in the districts of Kisii and Mt. Elgon. Merciline Kerubo, (not her real name), a 17 year old girl has her own story to tell:

“ I am the first born in our family and I was learning in a boarding school in Kisii District. On this particular day, when I had gone home for holidays, I was met with a rude shock ,after learning that my parents were planning to get me circumcised. The next day, my aunties were called to sweet talk me into it. I stood my ground and said no to FGM. Later in the evening, I ran to my other aunt who was the only one supporting me because she was a born again Christian and knew the dangers of FGM. My aunt later took me to her friend in Kisumu District . While in Kisumu, I learn’t about TEMAK and I anticipated for a chance to train in tailoring but instead, by the favor of God I was sponsored back to secondary school when TEMAK saw my interest to complete school . TEMAK has instilled hope in me and I have forgotten all about being circumcised because no one frustrates me to do it again. I am in my land of freedom and I thank God for bringing TEMAK my way.
