HEALTHCARE TO THE COMMUNITY
(Posted January 2005)

The TEMAK Clinic provides medication to girls, young women and children living with HIV. Herbal immune boosters and multi - vitamins are provided. Medication to tackle opportunistic infections as well as antibiotics are also supplied. In 2004, the clinic has treated 600 girls and children free of charge. The most common ailments were malaria, skin infections, coughs, flu and gastro-intestinal complaints.

Outreach to the slum area of Obunga, adjacent to TEMAK, was done by the clinic’s personnel led by nurse Jacinta Wanga. This aimed at providing relief to residents suffering from easily treatable ailments.

Meanwhile other outreach activities were underway in the rural districts of Kano, Nyakach, South Nyanza and in Budalangi. In Kano, TEMAK has mobilized the people into building the Katolo Community Centre where there’s a community pharmacy and health centre.
