Elder Dean Gadd was the preacher during theconference. He took the
congregation through scriptures, hence bringing out the revelation of God’s
word to the listeners.
DAY 1: Just as John the Baptist, the director, Mr. Joab Othatcher paved the way for the preacher by introducing the mission team to TEMAK. He read Romans 1:8 –16 to elaborate the purpose for their coming. Mr. Othatcher said that the visitors from Hawaii came to impart to us a two way gift because God brings the spiritual gifts through friends in order to encourage us. He went on to say that the visitors have not just come to be with us but that they may harvest the ripe fruits here in TEMAK for the Lord. He also said that the Lord is calling us to righteousness because the righteous shall live by faith. It is because of faith that the ministry of TEMAK has come this far and the same faith has been reported worldwide. With this, he welcomed Dean Gadd who read the book of Colossians 1:1-4 and he briefly explained that they as a team have indeed come to strengthen and encourage TEMAK ministries. He said that they had been praying for us and have heard of our faith. He concluded his sermon with a word of prayer as the girls went back to their various classes while the nursery children remained in the tent for their lessons with the rest of the team members. DAY 2:
On this day, Dean Gadd preached on how to set our hearts on things that are above. He said that we should set our hearts on heavenly things and put to death all that are earthly. He said that we should let the peace of Christ rule our own bodies and let the word dwell in us rich. He concluded by saying that we should let our desires to be set on the things of God. After the preaching, he had another session of ministering to the young women and girls. He preached on how comfort zones hinder our spiritual growth. He urged them to break out of their fears and do the uncomfortable. The examples of the things we fear to do are such as evangelizing and failure. He portrayed on how the crab leaves its shell before it grows another hard shell to show how we become weak and very vulnerable when we get out of our comfort zones. He concluded by telling the girls to encourage each other the same way Jesus encouraged Peter to walk on the water, so that we can carry on to walk out of the comfort zones. DAY 3: After the praise and worship, Dean Gadd majestically walked to the altar. He preached on God’s impossibilities. He read a scripture in 1 Kings 4:1-7 where there is a story of prophet Elijah and the poor widow. The measure of faith that this woman had, determined the amount of oil she was to get. We sometimes limit God because of lack of faith. He concluded that we should expect the very best from God and know that he can do more than we think of in our lives. After praying to the congregation, Dean Gadd taught the women on their own. He taught on the topic of fear and desperation. Fear robs us of peace and joy and it is the opposite of faith. To do away with fear, we can seek the presence of God and also abide in his word. Dean Gadd then urged the girls to have memory verses and to stand on the promises of God. DAY 4: On this day, Dean Gadd talked of the war of the flesh and the spirit. He said that when Christ is in you, your spirit is alive and your body is dead. He also said that we should be transformed by the renewal of our mind. He ended his sermon by saying that there is no condemnation for they that are in Christ Jesus. DAY 5: This was the day the girls were tested whether they had memorized their memory verses. Each received a gift from Dean Gadd after saying the verse correctly.
The message for the day to the girls was on how to give birth to an Ishmael. He told them that God will fulfill his promises if we follow his ways. We have to wait upon God, be still and He will fight for us. He ended by saying that we should put our trust in God and lay our plans before him. DAY 6: This day’s message portrayed the unlimited provisions of God. He taught on how God knows our needs even before we ask. Peter wanted to use a hook in order to catch the fish but Jesus told them to use a net in order to catch many fish. We need to obey God in order to receive his provision just as Peter did because his timing is also perfect.
He also taught the young women concerning the spiritual gifts. He said that the Christian life is about serving other people. Each has a specific job to do in the kingdom of God. We all have different spiritual gifts and they are for serving the people around us. He then gave examples of spiritual gifts such as administration, leadership, mercy, teaching and exhortation among others. He concluded by encouraging the girls to accept their God given spiritual gifts and use them for the good of others. DAY 7: Making decisions was the message of this day. Dean Gadd ministered only to the young women and girls. He started by saying that we need to learn how to make good decisions. We should choose godly counselors and not make decisions on our own. Ask for wisdom in order to make right decisions. The word of God in our hearts guide our thoughts and helps us to make decisions. He also said that we should be sensitive to the opening and closing doors because God will sometimes open and shut doors in order to direct us on the right path. Sensitivity to God’s timing is also an aspect as well as giving yourself time before making an important decision. DAY 8: This being the last day of the conference, we held a farewell spree for the visitors. Lots of presentations were performed after everybody had cooled their throats with an ice cream. Kate Buccigross performed the ‘Hula’ dance for the last time. Sara Webb enticed Mr. And Mrs. Othatcher to dance with her to a nursery rhyme which the congregation roared in applause. With all humility, the couple made the steps and this portrayed the virtue of service to all in their lives. This was a good opportunity to share testimonies and everyone had learned something new though the conference. Everything that has a beginning must have and end. We bided our friends a hearty farewell with the hope of seeing them again.
