Vocational Training Workshops

These will provide ample room to train more girls and young widows. The dressmaking & tailoring section will no longer compete for space with hair dressing and will have more sewing machines and cutting tables. The computer lab will have much more space to put up more workstations. This should increase information technology literacy among our target group.

Arts & Crafts making will no longer be done in the hot sun; there will be space allotted for this crucial income generating activity, as well as equipment to create quality products.

Primary School Classrooms

To improve TEMAK's provision of elementary education to children of teenage mothers at the centre and those from the community, these classrooms should provide a conducive, pleasant learning environment for the young ones. Just attending school at the CITY OF HOPE should be enough of a motivation to boost their interest in education, for the CITY OF HOPE will certainly be a different world from the slums they grow up in. Concrete blocks compared to semi-permanent structures and electric lights compared to oil lamps are some of the contrasts these kids will encounter.

Half-way Home

TEMAK works with several girls who have experienced sexual or physical abuse at home. As part of the counseling and rehabilitation process, it becomes necessary to take victims away from an abusive environment and introduce them to a life where there's genuine love. These girls also need constant monitoring so they aren't pulled back to where they came from.

Similar in workings to the more familiar shelters for abused spouses, a half-way home is designed to allow the victim gain a fresh perspective on her situation. This will open up possibilities that she could pursue by creating self confidence. Unfortunately, the concept of self esteem tends to be lost on abused persons.

Read the story of Merciline Kerubo. Merciline rejected the practice of Female Circumcision, practiced by her Kisii community, and was rescued by TEMAK. Many such girls rescued by TEMAK will need a temporary home as they are rehabilitated.

At a half-way home, a victim of abuse is enlightened on the fact that she is a unique person made in the image of God and who deserves every good that comes with living. Its only after she can value herself that she can build the foundation for a new beginning.

Dormitory

"… it feels nice going to TEMAK, but carrying [my baby] Sandra 3km to TEMAK is like having 2kg of flour around my neck and moving around with it for nine hours. It's tiring. How I long for boarding facilities to be available at TEMAK …," - Agnes Adhiambo - Hairdressing Student.

Clinic

Our clinic is treating skin infections, which are a common problem among people living with HIV. Counseling is offered to the clients, and followed up by home-based care. Women, children and men are benefiting from this facility. A bigger, better stocked clinic at the CITY OF HOPE will serve a far higher number of people, allowing HIV carriers live productively for much longer.

Meanwhile the clinic will attend to common ailments found in the slums including malnutritive disorders, skin disease, malaria and typhoid. The TEMAK clinic at the CITY OF HOPE will continue its ongoing awareness campaigns on nutrition, HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention and better sanitation.

Chapel

Evangelism is the backbone of TEMAK's best practices. A Chapel at the CITY OF HOPE will provide more room for Christian fellowship meetings and help a multitude of souls.

Shown here is a morning devotion session at the current center. This is done in the same space as the tailoring pool, which also shares space with the hairdressing training class.
