MADE ANEW WITH LOVE BY TEMAK
I lived in a wrecked lorry with my four children, as I watched the ruins of my life with no hope of being rescued after my husband’s death at the age of twenty. Whenever I found some food, I would feed my two smaller children, the next time I found something to eat my other two children would get it.

Yet I knew that I shall live and see purpose in my painful life. Full of uncertainty and tears and hoping for light out of my darkness, I knew I shall stand. A team from TEMAK found me in the wreck of a lorry in the name of my house and I could not believe it as a shopkeeper who supported me with food told them my story. I was supported by TEMAK through training in tailoring and dressmaking. After that I was also trained in marketing and production where I was later given a soft loan of Shs20,000. While training TEMAK paid for my house rent, I was given food, medical care, clothing and education support for my children.

Today I can stand tall, not broken and desolate; but made anew with love. I no longer live in a broken down car; I rent a house with two bedrooms, my four children are alive and go to school consistently, eat regularly and dress well. I have also finished repaying the loan. Since TEMAK still cares and supports my children, I am now saving to by a piece of land outside town and hope to build a house. Before, I saw my children as the source of my suffering, I had a negative attitude towards them and had lost hope. Through counseling at TEMAK, I developed a positive attitude. I not only look tall now but beautiful because I am made anew with love by TEMAK.

FEAR
This morning I saw another orphan afraid as she was brought to TEMAK. I was sad to see so much fear in her, for I know fear so well; it was my constant companion before coming to TEMAK. Fear is more terrible than pain.

I went to the girl and assured her that it was well at TEMAK. It is good not to be afraid but to know fear, go back and conquer it by prayer, it is a greater victory. All orphans in TEMAK know fear and lived with it before coming to TEMAK. But few break out of its prison. To conquer fear is to step out into the sun light, from the shadow, which can only be done by TEMAK and through financial support and good will from well-wishers. This helps TEMAK to help us have freedom after living in a cage.

TEMAK helps us orphans to look life in the face, the past, present and future and to know that they are stunning with every good potential in them and God being the master. So God in your mercy help TEMAK to get more funds to be able to reach out to more children suffering out there unnoticed. Because no one could have been, more afraid than I was, this is why it is imperative that TEMAK win this battle.

THAT IS ALL
My suffering as an orphan was not the end of my song, but only a pause in the singing. I did not know the music until TEMAK taught me the song.

My suffering as an orphan was not the end of my road to success, but the beginning, I did not know where to go until TEMAK showed me where to go, that is all.

How could my desert become a watered garden? I did not know until TEMAK watered it for me, that is all

Through all my suffering and success, God is God.

A CANDLE AT DUSK
As darkness of sorrow fell on me, so your flame grew ever-brighter God. The night crowned in with all the pain and sorrow of losing my parents to Aids; as its shadows of bitter thoughts rushed on every side but this did not put me out. My flame of hope seemed so small, so insignificant against poverty and suffering which came on its own with the deepening of the night. As a hen shelters her chickens under her wings from danger so the newborn shadow of TEMAK came to me.

Oh wings of God let your love draw all our plans and thoughts swiftly to you, so when fear, doubt or any kind of temptations come, let us bring them to your light knowing that it shines best against the darkness of poverty. As a hen shelters her chickens under her wings from danger, so we fly to you dear lord, that we may dwell in the safety of TEMAK in our darkest time. Lord we need the shelter of your wings of light.

- Winnie Joyce was taken back to school by TEMAK at Ogada Secondary School

TRAINING AND CHILD SUPPORT AT TEMAK
Soon after the death of our mother, we were moved to our rural home where we stayed with our stepmother who was a drunkard. She would come home late in the night, wake us up, quarrel and beat us. While at the rural home, a relative came and promised to take me to a college. Little did I know I was being taken to work as a house girl.

We reached Kisumu and I was taken to work as a house maid where I worked without salary for six months. When I asked for my salary to go visit my younger brothers, I was beaten the whole night until I lost consciousness. The night beatings continued for another one month and I decided to run back to my relative’s house. He did not take any notice of my poor health and complaints. Being a Saturday and the following day was a Sunday I decided to go to church and told my story to a pastor and his wife who took me to TEMAK.

Right now I am training at the center as a hairdresser. TEMAK also cares for our other three younger ones through food, clothing, education and medication support. I pray for the City of Hope to be built so that they can be able to stay at the center.

THANK GOD FOR TEMAK
We lost both parents to HIV/Aids when I was 15 years old and were left with our 80-year-old grand mother who was too weak to work and later died. I could go out with elder men for financial support. My younger brothers could also go out to do manual work in plantations. Their income was not reliable since they often fell sick due to being overworked and starved.

We came to know about TEMAK through their monthly home visit programs where I now train in tailoring and dressmaking. They also support my brothers with food, education and medication in their care and support programs. They pay our rent and support us with beddings and clothing. Thank God for TEMAK. We pray day and night for funds to be available for construction of the rehabilitation center.

Loneliness of an orphan
Oh mother, my beloved mother, after laying a flower on your grave, you left me alone mother, lonely and suffering, among strangers, with no mother to turn to.

Lord I am weak and torn apart as an orphan
Thinking of how I will live in this land full of suffering and miseries facing young orphans, I am out there crying, alone Lord, please hear our faintest cry.

I am bitter about life and death
As tears run down our checks in torrents with no one to wipe them for us orphans. Mother father where are you.

Lord I am lost in thoughts
Thinking of the miserable and awful life we are living with my young brothers and sisters left behind for me to care for, where does our future lie Lord?
