Lora Kihorany is a volunteer with a difference. She came to Kenya to do voluntary work and surely showed that hers was serious business with the underprivileged and underserved girls and children at TEMAK.
A resident of California, USA, Lora was at TEMAK's centre in Kisumu, Kenya, late 2002. Each day was busy for Lora: from games, counseling and home visitations to talks and care of the little children of teen mothers. Her good interpersonal relationships with the girls did wonders as she went out of her way to talk to them about the Word of God
Lora had passion for those infected, making long winding walks into the slums to visit the girls and children in their homes; joining them for lunch which she was assisting in. Back home, Lora has made an outstanding effort getting people who can support individual orphans, an effort which made her own sister, Katie, support a child with monthly gifts. Not to mention Yoshi Hatori, who now takes care of Nancy just to mention a few. Lora has also convinced her mother to send clothes and shoes and pieces of fabric that have greatly benefited the girls and children. The fabrics have been very useful in training the girls in tailoring. |
